Photograph taken of the subject's back showing the extensive lesions of an agressive acne pustulosum. Ricketts was a prolific contributor to medical journals and published several surgical monographs. He was also a member of societies too numerous to list. One of these associations was the Cincinnati Photograph Society and from this fact it is not unreasonable to assume that he took the photograph illustrating this paper.

The name, Kurtz, inscribed in the negative, refers to William Kurtz who provided photoengraving services to D. Appleton in New York City, the name and location of the publisher of this journal.
